HERE WE GO! Planning the Trip to Taiwan
It all started a while back when Steve Weix, Maya's good friend from college, invited her to come visit him in Taiwan. When she mentioned it I jumped at the chance to visit Taiwan, a place I've never been to despite all my trips to Asia and the Chinese mainland over the last twenty years or so. So I offered her we should make the trip.
Also, it's a gift for Maya's birthday coming up on Sunday 4th!
Steve has been living in Taiwan for a few years, teaching Science and English in the private language institute. For those of you interested in deciphering Chinese traditional script, here is the school's website American Eagle Institute, have fun!
I've purchased the tickets- we are flying via EVA Air, a Taiwanese airline company. "When in Rome...", that's my motto. We depart on February 3rd., weather permitting, and returning on the 12th. (Why do we say "depart" when we are flying but just "leave" if you drive?)
Unfortunately, after I purchased the tickets I discovered that EVA has special "Hello Kitty" jets available. I could've booked on one of those jets, although it would probably drain my 401K savings. You can check the planes here Hello Kitty Jets. Oh well, next time.
The plan is for me to fly to NYC on the 2nd to meet Maya there; and we leave on the 3rd. The route is in the map below.
Flying distance from NYC to Taipei, capital of Taiwan, is approximately 16 hours. Enough time to finish War & Peace. Or better yet, the Chinese story "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" that is just as long.
